Because of where the doors and windows are that open onto the deck, I couldn't get outside without scaring the squirrel away, so these were all taken from inside, through a window. Just as the storms started to lighten up, the squirrel started inching closer to the house, further under our eaves and thus sheltered from the rain.
On mornings past, I've seen what is probably this same squirrel lay down on the railing and s-t-r-e-t-c-h out both front and back legs, or hang onto the railing with its back claws and stretch out as far as it could reach down one of the spindles (which it did again after the storms cleared out), but this is the first time I've had a camera handy when I spotted it sitting there.
