Speaking of dental work...

A post by sigma7 reminded me of another major impact on my life since 1998: Dental work.

Four crowns, six veneers/half-caps, a cracked tooth, no more wisdom teeth, and a couple dozen fillings later (which includes a replacement or two for lost fillings), and I've already had all the dental-related joy and happiness I'd like to ever experience, thankyewverramush.

("Thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?"--Miracle Max)

On the plus side, after getting all that work done, and slowly building up a habitual regimen of daily brushing with a prescription flouride toothpaste, semi-regular use of Listerine, trying to be semi-regular about flossing, and switching to checkups every 4 months instead of 6, now, the poking & prodding don't hurt anywhere near as much as they used to. I even occasionally manage to have a checkup where they don't find something else to drill. (As happened this morning, thank goodness--I'm sick & tired of the dentist finding 2-3 more cavities or "areas we'd like to watch for next time" every time I go in.) It also helps me a teensy bit to schedule everything in the morning, when my pain sensors aren't fully awake yet.

On the other hand, my sister has same genetics as the rest of us in the family, but has never had a cavity in her life. To paraphrase Peanuts' Shermy: How I hate her.
