The base image was captured from that timeless Schoolhouse Rock classic, Interjections! However, since I don't have software to do screencaps from DVD, the initial image for this one was captured either via using the PrntScrn key on Youtube, or by taking a digital photo of my TV on pause--I used both techniques for various of my Schoolhouse Rock icons, and don't remember which I used on this one. Regardless, the colors were originally pretty badly washed out, so I re-colored it and animated the color cycling. So the rainbow doesn't precisely match the original, but I like it better this way. (I also tried cycling it the other direction, and it doesn't look as exciting that way.)
The quote is from the character Shinobi Shaw in a pre-1999 comic book that featured X-Force. I didn't note down the series & issue number when I added it to my Usenet .sig file back then, and haven't been able to find it again since--and even skimmed through the every issue of X-Force from that timeframe looking for it--so unfortunately, I can't get more specific than that (which bothers both the obsessive completist & the librarian in me).
I composited the picture starting from this original (click for larger size):
(for context, it's from this Norwegian site), took out some background elements, and redrew the pants with this plaid pattern (click for larger size):
(which is from a page with some other wild pants patterns)
The Guru Meditation error is the Amiga's equivalent of the Blue Screen of Death, here reformatted from the original two-inch high rectangle across the top of the screen into a 100x100 square. (I don't remember anymore what that particular error number means; probably a memory-access error with the memory address involved.)
Visual literal representation of the refrain from They Might Be Giants' "Birdhouse in Your Soul", with the animation approximately timed match the actual tempo of the song.
Lots of image manipulation involved with this one, and both the original nature of the originals and how much manipulation was done isn't always clear in the end result, especially since I had to shrink it down to 74x74 and downgrade the palette to (I think) 16-bit in order to keep it under LJ's 40K file size limit.

"Ordo Bibliotheca - International Order of Librarians", scanned rom the inside back cover of the Rex Libris #2 comic book. From the above-linked webpage: "The veil of secrecy that has surrounded the Ordo Bibliotheca, the secret International Order of Librarians, has been so complete and well maintained that it has, unlike the cover stories of the Templars and the Masons, remained completely unpenetrated by conspiracy theorists." The stories are more than a bit surreal (the series does feature gun-toting, eldritch-evil-defeating librarians, after all), and the vector-based graphics and faux breaking of the fourth wall both can take some getting used to, but it's a fun little series.
